Kids Voting Mesa County is Proud to Announce our 2015 Scholarship Recipient!

A 500 dollar scholarship has been awarded to April Peterson of Plateau Valley.

As a board, Kids Voting Mesa County was impressed with April’s application and essay submission. April is a perfect image of Kids Voting Mesa County’s vision and mission. In April’s essay she explained how she has helped to make her community stronger by being a knowledgeable and engaged citizen. She also explained how she plans to have an impact on her community in her future.

April’s involvement with her school is but one way she has made an impact in her community. She has been dedicated to peer counseling, advocating for health, the safety committee, and she has been a Residential Top Leader. April’s highest achievement awarded was her Gold Coat Jacket.

In a strong letter of recommendation April’s Social Studies teacher, Rachel Schowalter, said, “One of April’s strongest qualities is her caring nature. April is first to volunteer, offering her support and help at any time.” Mrs. Schowalter also stated that April is a great leader, “Not only does she follow rules and lead by example, but her rapport allows other to accept her leadership. Her leadership is natural.”

April’s scholarship will be awarded to her in her attendance of Pikes Peak Community College. As a board, we know that Pikes Peak will be lucky to have you!

Good luck April!
